Winter 2007

Georgia Winter Hummingbird Report for 2007-2008

The 2007-2008 winter hummer season is now complete we had 104 reports in 46 counties.  While not a bad season as numbers go, it was a little lower than past seasons.  The highlight of this season has to be the first state record of the Green-breasted Mango that spent the whole winter in Dublin, GA.  Another first for Georgia was a returning female Broad-tailed Hummingbird in Mableton.   The numbers of Calliopes in the state continue to be stronger than first thought.  This species is becoming an expected species every year.   Thanks for all of your help in gathering this data on wintering hummingbirds in Georgia.  It will be interesting to see the trend on the yearly reports as the word gets out about feeding our winter hummingbirds in Georgia.

The breakdown of species so far for the 2007-2008 winter season is as follows:

Green-breasted Mango - 1

Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 8

Black-chinned Hummingbird - 3

Calliope Hummingbird - 4

Broad-tailed Hummingbird - 1

Rufous Hummingbird - 46

Unknown Hummingbird - 41
