Georgia Winter Hummingbird Report for 2005-2006 The 2005-2006 winter hummer season was a good one. Who would have dreamed of three Broad-tails in Georgia? We finished out the winter hummer season with 48 counties reporting a winter hummingbird! The total numbers were a little lower than last year, but the bulk of the birds banded this year were hatching year birds as compared to last year. Which indicates a much better nesting season last summer. If you had a hummer last winter let us know. Thanks for all of your help in gathering this data on wintering hummingbirds in Georgia. It will be interesting to see the trend on the yearly reports as the word gets out about feeding our winter hummingbirds. The breakdown of species so far for the 2005-2006 winter season is as follows: Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 4 Black-chinned Hummingbird -4 Broad-tailed Hummingbird - 3 (4th - 6th State Record) Rufous Hummingbird - 56 Unknown Hummingbird - 39
