Winter 2003

Georgia Winter Hummingbird Report for 2003-2004

What a year for winter hummingbirds!  We broke last years record of 123 reports with a total of 135 this year!   The season started off slow, but after Thanksgiving the reports came in fast and furious.  We had 49 counties reporting winter hummingbirds, that is almost a third of the counties in Georgia.  We did not have as many different species this year, but we made up for it with the number of Rufous Hummingbirds documented.  It was also a great year for hosting multiple hummingbirds as we had 19 people that had at least 2 birds at one time in their yard this winter.  Two of these folks had 5 hummingbirds!  Thanks for all of your help in gathering this data on wintering hummingbirds in Georgia.  It will be interesting to see if we continue to increase the yearly reports as the word gets out about feeding our winter hummingbirds.
