The Magnificent Hummingbird (Eugenes fulgens) is one of the two largest hummingbirds normally occurring in the U.S. the other is the Blue-throated Hummingbird. There have been 2 state records of Magnificent Hummingbirds in Georgia.
Adult Male Magnificent Hummingbird
Description: Average Weight: Male 7.7g, Female 6.4g. Male: Dark green back, purple crown, metallic green gorget, black bill, black breast and upper belly, lower belly brown, tail is dark green and notched. Female: Olive green back and crown, duller than the male, throat grayish, pearl-gray tips on outer tail feathers, central tail feathers green. Distribution: Observed in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. Winters in Mexico.
